IN DEFENSE OF BUSH - episode 3

In which Ned defends President George W. Bush against the accusation that he "has a clear history of lying and being secretive."

IDB: This is Ned Needleman with In Defense of Bush. Today we have Pete in Tucson. Go ahead Pete.

Pete: Hi. I think Bush has a clear history of lying and being secretive. The press gave him a free ride when he ran against Gore and was misrepresenting his record as governor of Texas. Molly Ivins nailed those lies down really well and all the press ever followed up on was when Gore said he'd met some politician in one place when it was some other politician - here a guy who meets hundreds of people a day and makes a trivial slip - then there was this big thing about him having a credibility problem and Bush being asked about it and saying it was "troubling" to him. It was infuriating. It wasn't Gore who was lying. It was Bush. Right before 911 there were front page stories in both the New York Times and the Washington Post about how Bush had a consistent record of misrepresenting facts. Then 911 happened and that was all forgotten. He and his people just lie and repeat the lies. I think they get away with it partly because they lie so much - about Iraq, about Al Qaeda and Sadam Hussein, about taxes - he said his tax cuts would benefit the lower end but they were for the upper end. They name every new law they have the opposite of what it will result in. If they want to cut down all of the trees they call it the Save the Trees Act. I can't remember any of those names now but they're like that. And secrecy, good lord. They hide all their dirty deeds behind the veil of national security. They're the most secretive administration in history. What are they trying to hide? Why doesn't the media expose them for what they are?

IDB: Okay, and now, IN DEFENSE OF BUSH. Umm. You are wrong.

Pete: Why…

IDB: You're wrong because you're wrong. Okay, made mincemeat of that guy. And that's all the time we have right now. This is Ned Needleman In Defense of Bush. This is Ned Needleman In Defense of Bush.
